I’m Nathan Altman, thank you for stopping by. I hope to earn your vote for the Great Lakes Energy Board, District 2.

Living on Beaver Island, I know the logistic and political challenges of bringing reliable fiber internet to our remote location is an obvious problem to residents. We will need an active advocate to help solve it, improving digital self-reliance for businesses and individuals.

I have a passion for uniting communities around difficult challenges, and I’ll push harder than any other candidate to bring fiber to our members as soon as possible. I’ll embrace an innovative mindset while keeping a practical eye on costs and a considerate ear to feedback.

Along with fiber, I’ll bring that mindset to other sectors like sustainable energy production. What if our rural community could sustainably produce and store more energy than it consumes? How soon could we make that happen? As a board member, these are the goals and questions I will answer with enthusiasm.

With over 15 years of experience as a general contractor and construction manager, as well as an engineering background, I have a broad understanding of the technical aspects of energy delivery and consumption. Additionally, my 4 years inside the Department of Public Works at Burning Man providing water, power and other “utilities” to a completely off-grid experimental “city” of 80,000 people gave me an intimate understanding of the challenges of reliable remote service.

I have managed multimillion dollar projects as part of technology start-ups and community organizations, most recently as the project manager teaching hundreds of volunteers at the main Temple and Man builds for the Burning Man event. My passion is embracing a creative mindset and working with talented people to accomplish ambitious projects in short amounts of time, which will serve the membership well. Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit about me. I hope to earn your support and vote.
